The Requirements
To be a good fit for the Construction Project Engineer opportunity you should have:- A bachelor's degree is strongly preferred.* Ideal candidates will have a degree in Construction Engineering or Construction Technology. We'll also consider candidates with degrees in different areas, as long as they have some construction project management experience.
- The ability to read plans and review shop drawings.
- Computer proficiency and familiarity with MS Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Quick question for you - click here
- PMP or similar professional certification is preferred but not required.
- Bilingual English and Spanish skills are a plus.

The Role
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will join a team that includes Project Engineers, a Project Engineering Assistant, a Molding Supervisor and a large team of Mold Makers. This team handles everything from taking orders to scheduling the project to manufacturing to shipping the finished product. Key activities in project management include coordinating lead times, scheduling and sequencing, managing customer relations, and ensuring we meet expectations for quality and timeliness.
Depending on your aptitude and interests, we might shape the role to emphasize some areas over others. For example, if you have a talent for customer relations, that could become an area of focus. If you have an analytical mind and are particularly adept with spreadsheets, you may spend more time on scheduling and documentation. One way or another, however, the role will be broad and you won't be bored.
More specifically, you will:
- Assist in the day-to-day activities of the Mold Shops and CNC operations, and assist in the scheduling of masters and molds.
- Assist the Project Manager (PM) in preparing, managing and updating project schedules.
- Report project status on a weekly basis to the PM.
- Prepare and present the weekly shipping meeting agenda.
- Prepare, maintain and present computer generated reports as needed.
- Maintain regular communication with the PM.
- Attend daily Operations meetings.
- Assist in contract management, contract administration and contract compliance.
- Coordinate with contractors' staff and ensure effective communication with all parties.
- Recognize basic construction or engineering problems and find solutions.
- Maintain project records and documentation.
- Review and make corrections on inspector's daily reports for quantities, contractor's progress, and as-constructed data.
- Read, interpret and review complex plans, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Assist the PM in monitoring internal project controls.

Keys to Success
To excel in this role you will take a proactive approach to learning and getting up to speed quickly. As you've probably already determined, this role will require that you manage a lot of moving parts in a fast-paced environment. At first it may seem a little like drinking from a fire hose, but you'll receive training and coaching from seasoned professionals.You'll need strong multitasking skills but you'll also be responsible for a large number of details. This will require you to strike a "yin-yang" balance to manage the details without getting bogged down in them, and ensure multiple aspects of multiple projects move steadily forward. Excellent organizational and follow-through skills will be essential.
In many ways you will act as a "hub" among a variety of internal and external stakeholders, and success will require strong interpersonal skills. Often you will be tasked with holding people responsible for deliverables and deadlines. Within QCP you will find that a collaborative, team-player approach works best. However, there will be times when you'll need to leverage your influencing skills, and on occasion you'll need to be assertive.
On the other side of this coin, you should be competent at achieving your individual goals independently. We understand that there will be a learning curve, and support never will be far away. At the same time, to master this role you should have the resourcefulness to work autonomously.
